Mumbai Police announces the launch of its first E- panchayat in association with FIST
(Foundation for Information Security and Technology)
Mumbai, January 12, 2007 – Having recognized the need for personal security on the net, the Mumbai Police has launched its first cyber adalat.
The Mumbai Police already has a Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) that registers complaints pertaining to the internet. These include complaints like obscene mail, dissemination of offensive material, electronic vandalism and extortion, illegal interception of e- communication, etc.
Mr. A. N. Roy, Commissioner, Mumbai Police, encouraged the ePanchayat as another initiative to help victims who may feel a formal police complaint may not be called for at this stage.
The ePanchayat is being conducted in association with The Foundation of Information Security and Technology (FIST).
“Having a semi-official forum like the ePanchayat should vastly improve the reporting of cyber crime incidents and hence facilitate their resolution” feels Mr. Kamal Kashyap, ex-Director General of Police, Maharashtra and President, FIST.
Aggrieved persons victimized by any form of internet crime can approach this cyber adalat through email, Skype-phone, chat, etc. The panchayat will advise / resolve the relevant issue.
The ePanchayat will consist of high ranking police officers and IT professionals and will be in session from 4 pm to 6 pm on the first and third Fridays of each month.
The first such adalat is from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday, 12th January, 2007 at VMCI, Everest Building, Tardeo and will have Mr. Sanjay Mohite, Mr. Vijay Mukhi, Mr. Atul Nishar Mr. Hanuman Tripathi and Mr. Chirag Unadkat who will seek to resolve cyber issues raised by the attendees. |
